Smart General Ledger (SGL) is an easy to use software implementation of an Accounting General Ledger. A General Ledger records all transactions that occur within your company. To ensure integrity and accuracy of financial information maintained, SGL employs classic double-entry bookkeeping. But as a user of SGL, you do not need to know anything about double-entry bookkeeping. SGL creates appropriate accounts and entry shortcuts for you so that you can focus on running your business, not your accounting software. Due to the solid foundation of SGL in double-entry bookkeeping, a full audit trail of all information entered into SGL is maintained for subsequent lookups and reconciliation. Furthermore, you may create additional accounts, modify existing accounts, and control how you post entries to any account. You can even create your own journal entry shortcuts for expedited data entry.

So what makes SGL so smart? In a traditional general ledger, accounting periods must be defined and closing entries must be made at the end of each accounting year. SGL does not require specification of accounting periods or posting of closing entries. With SGL, you can prepare a Balance Sheet, an Income Statement and a Trial Balance over any time period, and at anytime. SGL also supports data entry in multiple currencies. SGL automatically translates entries posted in other currencies into your primary currency when preparing Financial Statements.
